History lesson: The Playroom, which was a quick-fix replacement for the Probe after it went up in flames in 2000, was again reincarnated soon thereafter. A.D. was born.
With velvet curtains, stone walls and winding staircases, the club maintains a coy elegance, even though the cocktail waitresses don Britney-esque school-girl attire and certain nights have been anything but prim and proper. There are two main levels, including a large bar and dance floor as well as a VIP room, lounge, smaller bar and several cavernous crannies. Saturday nights, A.D. hosts Social Studies, a good place to groove without the jarring rave atmosphere and meat-market attitude found elsewhere. Electronica, hip-hop, house, funk, disco and '80s classics fans can also find their beat on the different levels depending on the night.
