Blu Monkey Lounge may be just a short drive down from the trendy clubs and chic lounges on Hollywood Boulevard, but it's a world away in terms of atmosphere and attitude. With help from Figueroa Hotel designer Mary O'Grady, the folks behind this lounge transformed a former dive bar into a lush, modern Moroccan getaway. Deep red, blue and orange hues blanket the room filled with pillow-stuffed couches and sleek T-shaped chaises comforting crowds hailing from both the hip Eastside and the monied Westside. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights feature DJs spinning a mix of drum and bass, pop, rock, funk and soul; on the other nights it's world music. Though one cozy area can be roped off as a VIP section for private soirees, the lounge practices an open door, all-are-welcome policy.
