The "Eastern-meets-Urban" theme provides a relaxed groove as edgy hip-hop rhythms and rich funky bass lines pierce the incense-laden air, and the omnipresent Buddha smiles knowingly down upon the crowd. Those desiring earthly pleasures indulge in spicy food and stimulating drinks, while others seeking a higher connection give themselves over to serious boogie on the dance floor.
But the music really sets the tone of this special place. Booking agent Dexter Story crafts thematic evenings combining the talents of several complimentary musical groups of various flavors: Monday features cutting edge Jazz and Electronica, Tuesdays offers space for the Singer / Songwriter / Indie Rock crowd, conscious Hip Hop on most Wednesdays, Latin, Reggae & African rhythms dominate Thursday nights, while the weekends feature a rocking combination of Hip Hop / Soul & World music. Between acts the house DJ's conjure magical sounds out of vinyl keeping the crowds going until the wee hours. Temple Bar also does a monthly film screening with IFP West the last Monday of each month plus a monthly poetry night.
